A few minutes away from Grimm’s Hotel Potsdamer Platz right between Mies van der Rohes Neue Nationalgalerie and Hans Scharouns Philharmonie you can find a number of the world’s most famous artists such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Caravaggio, Raffael or Tizian. The minimalistic building „Gemäldegalerie“ hides real treasures inside. Part of the Gemäldegalerie is as well the so called Kupferstichkabinett, which is a real „Wunderkammer“ with it‘s wonderful prints and drawings. Due to the paper arts particularly sensitively reaction regarding light and the vast amount of their collection, the museum displays just small parts of their works in temporary exhibitions.
At the moment 30 prints and drawings can be seen in the exhibition „Fantastic Beasts in Graphic Art from the 15th to the 18th century“. Not only since J.K. Rowlings blockbusters or Tolkiens „Lord of the Rings“ there are beasts in art and literature.
